How we started

WOMANA was started by Denise Morrison in 2024, but the story started long before then.
Denise grew up in Jamacia before moving to the UK with her husband in 2002. Having previously thrived as a sales representative for the Observer, Denise embraced being a mother of two when she arrived in the UK.
But in 2007, she wanted to do something more, and was drawn to teaching. She was a teaching assistant at a local primary school in Lambeth, before setting her sights on a degree in education. Unfortunately, in 2010/11, there were changes to immigration rules, meaning Denise would have to pay the international student fees. Fees being unaffordable, Denise had to wait until 2016 when her immigration status changed.
Now a mother of eight, Denise completed her degree in Education and Social Policy. Walking across the graduation stage, surrounded by her friends and family, was one of the proudest moments of her life.
And she didn't stop there. In 2021, a mother of ten children, she graduated with a master's degree in Health and Social Care Management and Policy.
Throughout her time at university, Denise was deeply involved in the Student's Union, serving as Students' Union President, Teaching and Learning coordinator, mums@uni society secretary and peer to peer student support.
Through these roles, Denise met students from around the world, all with different backgrounds, goals and lifestyles. Drawing on her own experiences, she supported and mentored countless students who faced complicated challenges. Denise helped them succeed in their studies and blossom into remarkable roles models within their families and communities.
It was through these experiences, the idea for WOMANA Education Consultants CIC was born.
WOMANA today
WOMANA regularly work with universities and organisations in the community and run in person workshop sessions and webinars to inspire, guide and mentor students.
As WOMANA's aspirations have grown, so too has the team. Now a team of six, WOMANA aim to continue supporting students on their educational journeys.
